Ruger LC9

Word on the street is that Ruger is really ramping up their production of the LC9.  It is supposed to be the next greatest thing in pocket carry.  Bigger than the LCP, it packs 7+1 capacity of 9mm.  It looks great, and I can’t wait to try one.  If it is as good as the LCP, they will have done something that is awesome.

By the way, we have been told that the LC9 and the LCP come off the same production line.  I can’t confirm this, but that explains why the LCP’s have dried up.  If you want an LCP and you see one, buy it now or you may have to wait a month or so until they get back into full production.  This is the same thing Glock does.  For months you won’t be able to find a particular model and then the distributors have thousands on hand.

This weekend we had a TN Handgun Carry Permit Class.  It was interesting to see what the students were using.  One student had been turned on to the Ruger LCP.  He originally came in for a Glock 19, but after seeing the LCP the decision was simple.  Paired with a DeSantis Superfly, it is a great combination for pocket carry.  He ended up shooting a perfect score, so I would say it’s a viable CCW option.

If you are interested, contact Jim at Mossy Creek Arms.  I promise you will like the price.

If you haven’t looked at the Ruger LCP for CCW, you are missing a great pistol.  Our retail arm, Mossy Creek Arms,  has been selling the LCP’s as fast as we can get them in.  In fact, I met a customer at the shop this weekend to complete the sale of a used Glock 19.  But when he saw the LCP he quickly changed his mind.

The LCP has several upsides.  First, it is in .380 caliber and not .32.  That small change makes it better for CCW.  Second, the LCP is so light that you will easily be able to carry it all day without radically changing your lifestyle.  It does you no good to have a CCW permit and gun that you don’t carry.  This gun will easily slip into a front pocket with the DeSantis Super Fly holster pictured below.

The only drawbacks to the LCP are the sights and number of magazines included.  The sights are super small.  This isn’t necessarily a hindrance in the CCW world, but if you are looking for a range gun, this isn’t it. Its small size will make it a little uncomfortable.  Also, the gun is only supplied with one magazine.  This is a departure from most semi-automatics that generally come with two.

You probably won’t enjoy a day at the range with this one for all day plinking, but if you need a discreet CCW you should definitely check it out.  Contact Mossy Creek Arms for pricing.

Price Gouging
| April 2, 2009 | 10:29 am | Just Whatever | 2 Comments

Price gouging seems to be something that we are all familiar with since the end of the world started last year.  Remember when gas was $4.00 a gallon, and companies like Exxon were still reporting record profits?  Well that same problem has now reached the gun world.

At the last Nashville Gun Show, one our customers reported seeing a RugerLCP go for around $500.  This my friends is a great example of the price gouge.  That gun on a good day should bring $300, but the current climate has prices so out of whack it isn’t funny.

In the beginning of the gun shortage, caused by the election of a what many Americans believe is an anti-gun administration, you simply couldn’t find the guns, but now prices have reached ridiculous proportions as some people begin to profit.  MCC certainly could have done the same thing.  We received 10 Glock 19′s that were used on the day of the election and sold them for 10% over our cost.  Why, because we feel like we can take care of your long term needs if we are fair in the short term.

I want to encourage  you to use some self-control as a buyer and a seller.  Don’t pay outrageous prices for a gun you want today.  Remember the housing downturn?  One day that gun won’t be worth a fraction of what you paid for it. Make sure you are buying from fair and reputable people.  If you are selling, offer the gun at a fair price.  It may bring a premium, but nothing should go for double its cost.  What a joke.

This too shall pass in time, and there is going to be a large market for guns that need to be off loaded by their over eager owners.  If you hang on to your cash now, you may be able to buy many of the guns you wanted at very fair used prices if you don’t get hung up on having a new gun.  Remember the gas crunch?  Now it has balanced out again, and we are paying less than before Katrina in many places.  Patience is called a virtue for a reason.  Perhaps good things will come to those who wait.

New Product From Ruger

It appears that Ruger has a new offering in the defensive pistol market. Called the LCP (light compact pistol), it’s a 380 designed for deep concealment or a backup. It carries a suggested retail price of $330. It has a sight channel with a front sight. Capacity is 6 rounds.

We have not had our hands on this yet, but pistols like this serve a great purpose for the person who wants to carry during the summer months. Everyone has struggled with how to carry their 1911 off duty or during the warmer months where a jacket isn’t really acceptable.

It looks surprisingly similar to the Kel-Tec P-3AT, which my administrative assistant recently purchased because it was one of the few semi-autos that she could manipulate the slide manually. She shot it over the weekend and loved it. So maybe there is a place for these little guns in your favorite lady’s purse, as well as your pocket.
