12 Days of Christmas for Shooters: Day 4
| December 10, 2008 | 11:13 pm | knives, Videos | No comments

Having been around many hunters, we know how valuable a good knife can be.  Whether you are doing chores around the camp or skinning game, having a great knife is important.  This of course is in addition to having bragging rights.

If you have never owned anything from Cold Steel, you owe it to yourself to check out their extensive line of knives and swords.  They offer some of the sharpest knives around, and their customer service is great.  If you dull the knife, send it back with a few bucks and they will sharpen again and clean it up.

Ultimate Hunter

Ultimate Hunter

The hunting knife we like the best is the Ultimate Hunter.  This folder has everything you want.  The edge is unbelievable.  It’s strength is unmatched.  You won’t find a better knife.  All of this makes it great, but what we love is that it is a folder.  For any of you guys who have added a few lbs over the years the folder is a great relief!  For anyone that doesn’t want gear hanging around you can’t beat it.

This knife retails for about $120.  Check out the video below and prepare to be impressed.

Ben just sent this to us from Fox News, and we couldn’t pass it up.  Constitution Arms has developed a Palm Pistol that is being marketed as the most ergonomically available pistol for the elderly.

The shape of bean, the pistol fits nicely into the hand and fires a single round of 9mm.  Here is the great part; it has FDA approval so you can get it prescribed by your doctor!  Can you imagine, getting an AR prescribed for stress relief?  What a great idea.   The pistol is fired by the thumb and said to have the ability to use a picatinny rail for accessories.

The pistol is set to sell for about $300.  They are taking orders now.  Anyone interested?

12 Days of Christmas for Shooters: Day 3

One of the coolest things around is a great multi-tool.  We use them all the time in our shop, and many of our LEO customers like to have one on their duty belt.  While you may be most familiar with the Leatherman brand, there are several other companies out there making some pretty cool tools.

Gerber has been making great knives for many years.  They offer a good value with high quality parts.  What many people don’t know about are their multi-tools.  If you haven’t seen the Diesel, you are missing out.

This multi-tool has all of the great functions that you expect and one huge added bonus; one handed opening.  On the traditional multi-tool it takes two hands to get them deployed, but the Diesel has a mechanism that allows the user to slide it out with one hand.  The other thing besides the cool factor about this tool is that you will no longer get your fingers pinched closing it back after you open one of the blades or files.

So who do you buy this for?  The LEO on your list will love having this.  Anyone who works outside will appreciate the versatility and one handed opening.  Shooters can use this in their range bags.  I actually bought one for my dad to have in his vehicle a few years ago, and he loves it.  Several time I have caught him showing it off to friends.  At just under $60, it is a great value that is sure to please.

12 Days of Christmas for Shooters: Day 2
| December 8, 2008 | 7:48 pm | Glock | No comments

Q. What could be better than having a great Glock and all the 9mm ammo you can shoot?

A. Glock’s 33 round magazine that will fit any 9mm model they make.

33 Round Mag

33 Round Mag

Yes, this is absolutely worthless in most situations, but it is cool.  If you are the guy who always dreamed of being a super hero, a pair of these will go well with your costume.  They are a lot of fun to shoot because you just don’t have to reload all the time.  It actually gives you the ability to heat up your gun really fast on a cold day.  But the best reason to own one is because you can, and one day you may not be able to.  I guess there is something in all of us that just wants what we think we may not be able to have.  You can get these from about anywhere, and we have a few left right now.  Your price: $30.  Sold Out.

12 Days of Christmas for Shooters: Day 1

We thought it might be helpful to all of the spouses and parents out there who need to know what to get their loved ones for Christmas.  So we are going to take the next 12 Days to fill you in on some of the coolest ideas going out there right now.  This list might also help you know what to ask Santa to bring this year if you are having trouble making up your mind.  We will try to start small with those things that you might use as stocking stuffers and work our way up to the grand finale.  Hopefully you will find something in here that will make sense to you.

Otis Shotgun Cleaning Kit

Otis Shotgun Cleaning Kit

A cleaning kit would be a great way to help out your shooter this year.  They come in all shapes and sizes to meet all budgets.  This one from Otis retails for $12, and makes the perfect gift to put in the stocking.  This kit is designed to be small enough to accompany you to the range, but it has everything you need to get the job done.

If you want a little more, check out their Elite system.  This comes with everything you need, including inforamtional DVD’s, but it also comes with a heavy price; $125.  This kit is great for the shooter with a larger collection of different caliber firearms.  It can handle any of them.

So whether you end up with the micro or macro kit, go ahead and stuff your shooter’s stocking with something that will keep them shooting.

K-Mart Ends Tennessee Gun Sales
| December 4, 2008 | 4:41 pm | Just Whatever | No comments

We are not sure of all the particulars at this time, but we just received word from TICS that K-Mart is liquidating all remaining guns and will not be selling anymore in TN.  At this point we don’t have any word as to national sales, but it may be safe to assume that they will be discontinued.

This means several things for the gun industry in your area.  If you have a local K-Mart with guns, you may want to see if you can score a deal before the holidays.  It also shows a growing trend toward the smaller more traditional gun stores.  When I first moved to Nashville in 1991, there were still many big box stores still selling handguns.  While good for the consumer on the one hand, it actually hurt them in the long run.  If you can buy a gun at a great deal, but can’t get accessories, ammunition, or service to customize or repair then you may be losing in the long run.  Now it is hard to find a big box store that still has a thorough representation of all types of firearms.

We say this all the time; Support your local shop! Having a good relationship with your local shop helps everyone.

Automatic Shotgun

Coming soon to a dealer near you!  Have you always wanted to limit out during duck season but Pa’s old side by side wouldn’t shoot fast enough?  Have you always been afraid that your single barrel shotgun made girls think you were inferior?  Well now you can slay the ducks and make girls drool.  All you need is a Class III license and more money than you lost last week in the stock market.  Check it out and keep dreaming.

Charter Arms
| December 3, 2008 | 9:38 am | Just Whatever | No comments

Our good friend Gunner has a good post on some new Charter Arms revolvers coming out that will let you fire some non-traditional cartridges in their revolvers.  Charter has been making a name for themselves lately with new revolvers including a Southpaw edition.  You can find them here.

Plaxico's Problems
| December 1, 2008 | 10:51 pm | Just Whatever | 4 Comments

ESPN reported today that NY Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress turned himself into authorities after he shot himself in the leg with a Glock Saturday night in a nightclub.  Allegedly the gun was tucked into his waistband and started to fall.  He reached for it and it went off, shooting him in the leg.  He was not seriously injured, but the fallout may be huge.  Not only is he at risk for losing a $35 million dollar contract, he may also lose 3 1/2 years of freedom because America’s favorite mayor (Bloomberg) wants him prosecuted to the full extent of the law.  With this story dominating the sports world, I thought I would remind you of a few things.

  1. If you gun starts to fall don’t grab for it.  I have personally known several people who tried to snatch a gun in mid air only to find a bullet hole in them.  One former customer was lucky enough to get 4 holes from one shot.  Just let it hit the ground.  It may be embarrassing to explain in public, but that is better than a trip to the hospital or worse the morgue.
  2. Use a holster.  Stuffing a gun down your pants is not cool.  Only someone with little regard for his own body does that.  A holster keeps things stable and protects the trigger from objects like pens or knives that might cause and accidental discharge.
  3. If you ever have an accidental discharge, tell the truth the first time.  Burress tried to cover his mistake by checking into the hospital under an assumed name.  He then said the incident happened at Applebee’s and not the nightclub.  Just get to the truth and own it.
  4. Stay away from places that are so seedy you have to have a gun even though it is illegal.  Your mom told you nothing good happens after midnight.  Believe her and you will save yourself a lot of grief.
