Secure Wedding

I thought that my cousin had a very secure wedding because he was carrying, but this link proves that there are weddings no terrorist would want to interrupt. I bet no one objected when the pastor asked for reasons they shouldn’t be married! Check it out here.

This is a great example of how to shoot swingers in competition.

Scope Rings
| June 24, 2008 | 10:10 pm | Gunsmithing | No comments

Getting the right scope rings makes all of the difference in the world.  I was talking to a shooter today who had experienced some problems with fatigue while shooting his .308.  It came down to the height of his scope rings.  An instructor pointed out that they were too high for him.  A switch to lower rings and he was good to go.

Your scope should feel comfortable to look through when you mount the gun.  If you have to raise your head up or lower it too much, you are not in the proper shooting position.  You should be able to mount the gun with a good cheek weld and see clearly through the scope.

Get the right rings and watch your shooting improve.

Trust Your Gunsmith
| June 16, 2008 | 9:42 pm | Gunsmithing | No comments

I just got off the phone with a friend who shared with me an experience about a customer who brought him a box of parts. He wanted a 1911 built, and decided it would be a better deal for him to buy the parts and supply them to the builder even though the builder told him not to do buy anything without first talking to him.

When he got his brand new gun back it wouldn’t run properly. Why? Because he had mistakingly bought one part for a 9mm instead of a 45acp. Oops! A very expensive mistake. Now, before you call my friend a big jerk because he didn’t inform the customer, you should know that they are very good friends, and the problem was fixed with a return visit to the shop.

Sometimes you may want a modification or part used that your gunsmith is familiar with and knows won’t cut it in the long run. You should trust him and save yourself the headache of having to make a return visit, or worse having to keep a junky part that no one will warranty.

Gun Security

If you are looking to keep hands off home defense handgun, you might want to consider a small safe. Safes are great ways to keep unwanted hands off your gun, but they do have a drawback; they may keep your hands off your gun when you need it the most. This is a problem for anyone that wants a handgun readily accessible for defense, but wants to keep children and snoopy friends away.

There are a couple of good options available for less than $100. They involve a keypad that you can access. The question is, can you access it fast enough, while you are under stress? The best option is one of the new biometric safes that are available. When it recognizes your fingerprint, the door drops open.

This type of safe will run anywhere from $150 and up. Mount it in your closet and you may have the best of both worlds. Check the out here.

Fist-Fire

Recently we mentioned D.R. Middlebrooks and point shooting as we were talking about Daniel Horner who now shoots for the Army Marksmanship Unit. Many people don’t buy into point shooting because they believe that only the “front sight/press” method should be taught. Middlebrooks takes that school of thought and turns it on its head.

One thing that often gets misinterpreted is that people say D.R. teaches people to never use their sights. That is simply not true. He actually says that if you have time, you should use your sights, but students who adopt the Fist-Fire method of shooting do not have to rely on their sights.

Recently Middlebrooks did a video for Downrange TV. In the video he shot at distances out to 100 yards with no sights on the gun. Don’t believe it can be done? Watch the video for yourself.

Even with a video like that, some skeptics will continue to doubt the validity of point shooting techniques, so let me give you a few reasons to consider point shooting;

  1. You may not always have time to use your sights. As D.R. says, time is a matter of distance.
  2. You may not be able to see your sights well because of age.
  3. It may be too dark to see your sights.

I went to one of D.R.’s classes about 5 years ago. It was a very interesting experience, and he is a great instructor. Do I ever use my front sight. All the time, when I have time. I can promise you this; if you go to Tactical Shooting Academy, you will come away with a few more tools to put in the tool bag, and that seems like the point.

MCC Looking for Competitive Shooters
| June 3, 2008 | 8:13 am | Just Whatever | No comments

Many of you saw the AMU video the other day, and it peaked your interest. It also got us thinking. We checked the some of the local matches in Nashville and found that there just aren’t a lot of people participating. This was surprising because in our former location it was not usual to have 50 people participating in a monthly IDPA match.

So this is the question; Where are all the competitive shooters in Nashville? We are interested in your comments and responses.

It also leads us to a new area of thought. MCC is interested in sponsoring a shooting team that could represent us in Nashville, at state matches and even on a national level. Let me outline the qualifications for a shooter to represent us.

  1. You must actively compete. Once in a while just won’t work.
  2. We really want at least one top level shooter, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t interested in shooters who are moving up in the ranks. You should be willing to submit match scores in local and state level matches.
  3. We want at least two shooters represented who are close to Nashville which is our home base, but we are also willing to work with shooters from outside the state.
  4. You must have good moral character. We want people who will be well spoken and represent the brand well in the shooting community.

If this describes you please email us to start some discussion. Send us your information, match history, whether you compete in IDPA, IPSC, or 3 Gun and where you are located. We will then tell you what is involved for those that are chosen.

Thanks for your interest.
