3.5# Connector
| March 12, 2008 | 9:14 pm | Glock | No comments

Many of you may be wondering why you hear about a trigger job that has a “Genuine Glock” 3.5# connector. As of the last armorer’s course I took, Glock did not sell this part or the amphibious spring cups to the general public. They have restricted these parts to L/E only. An armorer may order them, but it must be done with departmental letterhead.

Why? The only reason that was given is that they moved it to L/E to diminish liability. You can still get the 3.5 connector in any of the tactical/practical models (34 or 35), but it is probably not going to happen in most cases for your trigger job.

Some dealers offer a Genuine Glock 3.5# connector, but you can get the Ghost Connector from any number of places including Brownell’s. Ghost offers two different versions that we have tried, and that will be discussed further in another post. So it’s not the end of the world if you use the Ghost instead.

Does it matter? Not really, but someone may tell you it does. This is probably the same person who wants you to buy a tactical ear light.

3 Questions About Glock's Extended Mag Release
| March 12, 2008 | 8:14 am | Glock, Gunsmithing | 1 Comment

If you are thinking about an extended mag release for you Glock, here are a few questions you should answer;

1. How will I feel if I bend over and my drop free mag goes flying across the floor of the supermarket? Warning: If you are not a skinny person, you have a very high likelihood of loosing your mag inadvertently. This is bad, but not the end of the world. Read next question for end of the world.

2. How will you feel if your gun only goes bang once? Same premise, only this time you weren’t lucky enough for the mag to actually come out, it just unseated itself when you bent over. Some unfortunate incident arises, and your gun only goes bang – click . . . .

3. Do you need a competitive advantage in IDPA or IPSC? It may be that you have smaller hands and could use the extra length of the extended mag release to gain a few tenths of a second in your reloads.

If you answered yes to question 3 you need an extended mag release. Question 1 and 2 leave too many opportunities for Murphy’s Law to show up. If you shoot a lot of competitions, it’s worth it to buy a gun dedicated to competition and to have one dedicated for CCW. Think about it. It could be your life.

Great AR Value

I recently wrote a few posts lamenting the fact that the AR really doesn’t have a good bargain option. Well, the other day a customer of mine asked me if I had ever heard of CMMG. I confessed that I had not, but he quickly got my attention by saying they were offering a used AR for $570 plus $15 shipping. These guns are L/E trade ins, and advertised as guns that won’t win any beauty contests so I was interested to see them.

I received his gun on Friday, and I was more than impressed. First of all CMMG, had everything packaged right from his information to a packet containing information for the dealer. After doing a little checking, I haven’t seen anything negative written about them yet. They seem to have a great customer service history.

Second, this gun had absolutely nothing wrong with it. It was a DPMS lower with brand new internals and furniture. I couldn’t identify the flat top upper, but it was in great condition. The only odd thing was that it didn’t match the finish of the lower, which by the way they had disclosed in their advertisement. The only thing to consider is that it doesn’t come with any mags or rear sight, but most dealers will have that on hand for you when you get your rifle transfered in. We actually put a Yankee Hill rear sight on it, and outfitted him with a couple of Brownell‘s AR mags.

yhm-rear-sight.jpgbrownells-ar-mag.jpgMy customer was really pleased with how the entire experience turned out, and so was I. If you are looking for something that is going to be a shooter, or you are interested in three gun competition and find yourself a little short on cash, this is the gun for you. Check it out at their bargain bin page.

The Punt Gun; Every Duck Hunter's Dream

A friend of mine, named Howard Harlan, is well known for his custom made duck calls, and his collection of duck call/hunting memorabilia. Several years ago during a wild game dinner at Judson Baptist Church in Nashville, TN, he showed off a very similar gun from his collection, but this is the first time I have ever seen one in action.

These guns were very popular when duck hunting was a commercial business. Obviously this gun would help you take your limit.
